The DPF can be permanently damaged by engine failure which causes excessive oil to be passed into the exhaust system. This can be due to turbo failure, oil seals or internal engine failure. A diesel engine that burns too much oil or fuel for whatever reason, can cause a DPF failure and there are also a couple of things that can prevent normal regeneration for taking place, such as frequent short trips where the engine doesn’t reach normal operating temperature or exceeding the service interval.
As a clean DPF would save hundreds in fuel expenses, proper scheduled maintenance can help the truck perform at its peak throughout its life.
